AB  - An investigation of the phenomenon of a segregated "self-region" as contrasted with a "not-self-region" was attempted. Ss sorted items representing 8 different content categories into those which they felt were parts of their selves and those they felt were not. Findings: (a) Ss had clear perceptions of a segregated self-region; (b) Ss differed widely in the number of items included into their selves, and this variable of self-extension had high internal consistency; (c) item groups representing different content were found to be relatively homogeneous and to show a very definite rank order in terms of the degree to which they were included into Ss' selves.
