•^ear Josef,
This is to let you know that I shall definitely
be in Vienna between the l4th and 17th July and would very much
like to have a chance of seeing you. It would also be nice if you
could keep open the evening of the 15th or l6th July (Saturday or
Sunday), to give me a chance of inviting you for a dinner at the
Weisser Schornsteinfeger or a similar place. It is true that we
will be quite a crowd (Elisabeth, my daughter Cathie, and an old
friend, Bernice Hamilton, who is coming with us to Hungary); but
we two can sit at one end of the table and have a quiet chat.
I suggest that on arrival, I give you a ring; and we can then agree
on the exact time and detail of our meeting.
I reserved rooms for all of us at the Pertschy in the
Habrsburgergasse for our few days 1 stay in Vienna on the way to
Budapest; but we will be back in Vienna from Budapest on 26 July
for a single night in order to board the London plane the following
morning, on 27 July. For that nightthe Pertschy would only have a
"fiiesenzimmer fur 4% which we would like to avoid if at all possible.
I am wondering therefore if I could impose upon you to try and reserve
for that single night (Wednesday, 26 July), for the four of us, in any
hotel or pension not too expensive, either one double and two single rooms
or two double rooms, with at least one of them with two beds. My hope is
that you .could do this by telephone and without spending more than, say,
20 minutes in arranging it. Should it be more complicated and more time
consuming than that, please forget about the whole thing — I dare say
we can survive the inconvenience and lack of privacy of one night in a
Riesenzimmer.
In any case, I greatly look forward to seeing you soon.
With best regards,
Yours,
