Dear Josef ,
Thank you for your letter. It makes me feel very
badly, because it reminds me that I completely forgot to let you
know, about two weeks ago, that we had to cancel our summer
plans and our reservation at Sils, in view of a short comparative
study of the economies of Taiwan and Korea I promised to do, and
which will take us to those two countries in July. So, I am afraid
we will not be able to meet this summer. At the same time, I also
feel that going to a Swiss holiday will probably do you a world of
good, so I do not feel too repentant about having tricked you into
making a reservation there. And we are definitely planning to go
there next year.
My book, I am sorry to say, is going to stay unfinished;
somehow my co-operation with Lorie Tarshis turned out to be not too
satisfactory -- and perhaps also the task we wanted to undertake was
too ambitious.
We are just on the point of leaving for a short trip
to Europe: I am going to a panel discussion in Paris on the
probable implications of the computer revolution and related matters.
The Mitterand Government seems to be hard put to find American
economists not too extremely right wing and monetarists, which
probably explains why they invited me, who really know far too
little on the subject. If it turns out to be interesting, I will
let you know in another letter.
With all the best wishes also from Elisabeth,
Yours ever
