Lieber, sehr verehrter Herr Steindl!
Dear Josef,
Thank you for your letter of 25 February 1986. I should feel very
sorry, if my suggestion had annoyed you. I thought that my ques
tion was obvious, given that I had proposed Heinz Kurz to colla
borate with you in the revision of your paper (analogous sugges
tions have been made or other refereeing processes are under way
for almost all other papers): Heinz Kurz has submitted an exten
sive comment on your paper which partly expresses disagreement
and partly points out a number of alleged formal inconsistencies.
Surely you will agree with me that it would be very desirable
to eliminate the latter (if there are any) so as to bring the former
clearly into focus. While I found your basic idea original and
interesting, I can only state that as a reader I was left in a
state of confusion after having read both the paper and the com
ment .
Of course, I could have worked out my own view as to where the
truth lies - and I shall most certainly do so if you too cannot
agree better on what you disagree - but to work through the argu
ment bit by bit takes time and Krishna Bharadwaj and I cannot
referee all the papers presented at the conference without help.
