(I ask myself what determines the US position)
Politically the new situation throws up the question
whether Germany will incline
towards east or west-economically et.
The american +french-british position
may be explained by the fear that
the overwhelming tendency of Germany
towards an eastern orientation may
have political implication,
and in fact, the economic tendency
by itself is undesirable for the west.
