a mean score of 0.4, consisted of Crafting, Gift, and
Desire. It might be labelled the "Special Objects" cluster,
representing the qualities of things that are both acquired
in special ways and wanted as well, This may be akin to the
"special" domestic objects that were the focus of the
Csikszentmihalyi & Rochberg-Halton study (1981).
Finally, five major clusters were evident in the
analysis of the explicit judgements of criteria shown in
Figure 4. Mean median judgement scores near 5.00 represent
very strong arguments for ownership and those below 3.00
represent weak arguments. The first cluster, with a mean
score of 4.36, consisted of Purchase, Crafting, and Gift. It
might be labelled the "Means of Acquisition" cluster, since,
of the criteria. examined in this study, three Aesaribe means
of acquisition and they all belong to this cluster.
Alsunahivelys these criteria could be interpreted as
positive, life-enhancing means of ownership, as compared
with ownership by Discovery or by Spoils. The second
cluster, with a mean score of 2.53, consisted of vossessinn
and Assertion. It might be labelled the "Perceived
Ownership" cluster, since these two criteria were both
highly valued and clustered together on the analyses of
